Here is some information about the groovy Movie Picture House Solar
Cinema and the Green Screen Carbon Neutral Film Festival which we
will be curating in the Green Fututres field this year at
Glastonbury
Festival. I hope it is of use. If you require any more information,
do not hesitate to contact me.
Jerry - Groovy Movie Picture House - Solar Cinema

For the past ten years we have been running the Solar Cinema - The
Groovy Movie Picture House. This is the World's First Mobile Solar
Powered Cinema.
We began the project as a reaction to the complete lack of provision
for screening independent and underground film at arts festivals.
Over
the years we have built the venue into a fully featured, high quality
mobile cinema, which tours a wide range of outdoor events around the
UK and Europe. We are dedicated to promoting the work of film makers
at all levels, and have inspired many potential filmmakers to have a
go. Our cinema is quirky, cosy, comfortable, informal, intimate and
friendly. We provide the ideal space to road test films in front of a
receptive festival audience - including many who would not
necessarily
attend film festivals.
We all have a background in environmental activism, and the cinema is
partly a continuation of this. From the beginning we have been 100%
Solar Powered, generating all our electrical need with a large bank
of
solar panels. This, we hope provides a clear message to our audiences
that Solar electricity is a viable option. Big, bright, exciting
things can be achieved with small amounts of power and a little
thought. By coincidence we have also discovered that solar energy is
the ideal power source for a mobile cinema, giving us the freedom to
set up anywhere, without the distraction of a noisy generator.
The Groovy Movie Picture House operates within a beautiful custom
built, blackout marquee, so we can screen in the day or at night. We
can comfortably accommodate up to 200 people - or squeeze in 250+
when
we have a party. During the day our panels charge a large battery
bank, which provides up to 20 hours worth of reserve power for use at
night or in bad weather. All of our equipment has been chosen for
energy efficiency, without compromising quality at any level.
The Solar Cinema operates as a low profit project. We have always
been
reluctant to accept corporate sponsorship. We rely on booking fees
from events, and the occasional grant or donation to cover our
running
costs and wages. Our integrity has won us many friends over the
years,
and many conscientious film makers from around the world support us
by
allowing their work to be screened in our unique venue, for which we
are very grateful.

The Green Screen Carbon Neutral Film Festival

Now that Global Warming has finally been accepted by the mainstream,
we though the time was right for the World's First genuinely carbon
neutral independent film festival. The Green Screen Film Festival
will
be screening the best new films from independent producers, inspired
by all aspects of the environment. Green Screen will include
documentaries, comedies, animations, music videos and multimedia
performances from a wide range of concientios producers.

Films include:

Garbage Warrior (about the rogue architect who invented the
earthship - an eco house design made from recycled materials)

Naked Bike Ride (about a mass naked cycle protest in London)

Surplus (Stunning, hard hitting, beautifully crafted audio/visual
montage inspired by the dissatisfaction and inequality caused by
consumer society)

Crowd bites Wolf (an informative black comedy set in the anti
globalisation protest in Prague)

Stonehenge Cycles (following the Rinky-Dink and a colourful
procession of cycle activists to stonehenge for summer solstice)

Out of The Frying Pan (Tongue in cheek eco-road movie. A familly of
travellers drive accross europe using only vegeatable oil for fuel)

Animations from Nina Paley (a selection of animations from the award
winning american animator, using comedy to explore themes such as
over population)

Undercurrents (The original video activists present a selection of
environmental and social documentaries and a good dollop of satire)

ZenTV (a selection of music videos from our friends at Ninja Tune,
including Coldcut and Mr Scruff)

Live performances include:

Vjamm Allstars (Award winning team of audio/ visual performers
present their live show, remixing sound and vision on a bank of
computers. Plenty of social and eco comment, humour and fat beats)

Hattie Hatstar Multimedia show (acclaimed songwriter, accordianist,
commedienne and activist Hattie Hatstar interacts live with the Big
Screen in her hilarious multimedia show. With a wit as sharp as her
tongue this is not to be missed)
