THE CROISSANT NEUF FIELD

The Pinnicle of Ecotainment

GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL 2007

CROISSANT NEUF COMES OF AGE

 “Happy 21st   -  Croissant  Neuf . . . !”

This year is the 21st anniversary of the very first Solar Powered Venue at Glastonbury Festival. Since the early eighties, Croissant Neuf  have pioneered the use of the sun to provide music to oodles of festival patrons and have grown from a teeny, tiny tiddler in the corner of the the Greenfields, to a multicoloured musical mammoth which now hosts an entire  field of it’s own.

This year we have extended the marquee yet again, due to popular demand, so now even more of you can Dance to Dubblehead, Boogie to The Big, Nuzzle up to Nizlopi and Saddle up for Steve Hillage and System7 – how diverse is that!

All our P.A and lighting is run totally on Solar Power and it is one of (if not the…) biggest systems of its kind in the Universe. But we’re not bragging – come and check it out for yourself and if you like what you see why not come along to a new festy that we are putting on in August this year – The ‘Croissant Neuf Summer Party’  www.partyneuf.co.uk – a chance to see many of the bands that have graced our stage over the last 21 years. Tickets will be on sale in the venue all weekend.

As you make your pilgrimage to the stone circle at the top tip of the festival site, stop off at Croissant Neuf where you can party with a clean, green conscience.

Techy stuff/Facts:-

Our 10,000watts TurbaSound Solar Powered P.A is housed in a 10 tonne truck named ‘The Solar System’.

Our venue now  takes 1000 people.

Energy efficient lighting rig – our LED stage lighting uses less power than three 100w household light bulbs.

The Croissant Neuf team also run The ‘Green Roadshow’ which travels the whole country with their unique exhibitions all focused on the theme of sustainability.

As well as a constant blitz of top quality music and entertainment and being inspired to the practicalities and delights of running on Solar Power, the rest of the field  is full of discovery and challenge in the most colourful and exciting way, inviting you to the awareness of living a greener and more sustainable lifestyle.

Amongst the ethical and fairtrade stalls there are innovative exhibitions where you can call on expert advice on Renewable Energy, Sustainable Homes, Transport and much more and leave with a wealth of new information whilst having a damn good time too.

Transport Action - New to the field this year .

Play, talk and debate with experts from several different transport groups. Work out your travel carbon footprint. Find out what you can do to help combat the problems and support the solutions in contemporary transport.

We always have a beautiful central garden feature in our field to sit by and chill and absorb the festival atmosphere. Grab a bite from the organic café, watch the street style performers and stiltwalkers, enjoy the bandstand and catch your breath before you stroll on to the next green field experience.

Local Contributors to the Croissant Neuf Field are: On the Verge Woodcarvers, Hill View Nursery, AD Tree Pirate, Ecos Trust, Cutting Edge Oak Timber framing Company and lots of local craftspeople and crew and not forgetting us Sally and Andy of Croissant Neuf.

11.15am Yoga Workshop Class

A free for all drop in Yoga class with the renowned teacher Anna Semlyn. Bring a mat or blanket if you can and start the day the Yoga way. De-stress, ease the tension away from sleeping in your tent the night before and set your mind and body up for the rest of festival…come again tomorrow morning same time……... Namaste.

1.00pm  Bad Science

With the deep bass and spacious soundscapes of dub, the get-up-and-dance of funk

and the bumping grooves and conscious lyrical gymnastics of hip-hop, Bad Science have created their very own brand of wickedness. Fronted by Dizraeli (The current Uk Slam Poetry Champion), the four core members will also be accompanied by a full brass section for their Glastonbury debut, which is guaranteed to get your feet stomping and your brains ticking.

2.30pm The Soundcarriers

These runners up in the Emerging Talent Competition are a complete first and must see band to the festival. Hailing from west coast Nottongham, The Soundcarriers transport the listener to somewhere completely different. Their patchwork-psychedelic sound morphs into out-and-out grooves before your very ears. Intruded only by 3-part harmonies, those who hear them find it impossible to describe their vibes let alone stand still.

4.00pm The Huckleberries

The Huckleberries began life in 1996 as a busking duo on the streets of Bournemouth, and now has grown to a stonking 5 piece band that comprises 5-string Banjo/Mandolin, Fiddle, Guitar, Electric Bass and Drums. They combine traditional Irish, English and Scottish tunes with American Bluegrass and Ragtime and have a more up to date contemporary dance feel that has captivated many a festval audience………..jigging.

5.30pm Rodney Branigan

An ambidextrous, multi-instrumentalist may sound too good to be true, but one listen to Texas-born Rodney Branigan and you will hear that this is no gimmick. For this a man who can play not one, but two guitars at the same time, and play both to awe inspiring standards, as well as having vocals and a natural ability for writing both lyrics and music. This is a must see for all guitar players out there and will astound anyone watching, don’t miss out.

www.myspace.com/rodneybranigan

From 6.30pm until 8.30pm the Croissant Neuf Venue will be closed to recharge its solar powered batteries for the nights’ events but outside on our Bandstand there will be a constant blitz of all kinds of entertainment  from solo guitarists to full on samba bands to fire breathing dragons – anything can happen here.

9.30pm  Mankala

Locally based Mankala is an eclectic band that plays high-energy original music that we define as Afro-Caribbean-Groove, with elements of Afro-Beat, Reggae and Zouk. The band brings together musicians from diverse places in the world such as Martiniquie, Zambia, Tenerife and of course England where Mankala was formed in 2003 in the multicultural city of Bristol. A full on performance of live music designed to make people dance!

11.00pm Almeida Girl and Le grand Descarga

This is the band to party to – A 9 piece band from Manchester at the cutting edge of the british Salsa scene with their new latin sound. Miss Almeida has a sultry, soul vocal approach to latin music which adds a new and exciting twist. On stage she is one of those rare performers who can capture audiences hearts and minds and is a damn fine dancer too whilst the band is packed full of incredible improvisers intertwining English and Spanish lyrics over some seriously heavy grooves while the horns fill out with blazing, riffs, mambos and solos. Singer/guitarist/percussionist Luke Concannon and double bassist/human/beatboxer John Parker produce a genre defying blend of jazz, hip hop, folkand funk and their sound has developed according to their own musical journeys. Nizlopi are very much a live experience with a strong sense of theatricality and experimentation and almost telepathic level of communication, honed over the years of working together.

The sound of Echo……..often heard moonlighting their string sound on other peoples records from The Who to the Herbaliser from Razorlight to Lou Rhodes. Provocative songs with a psychedelic wall of sound, this is beyond chillout after a hard days night.

4.00pm  Seize the Day

Standing room only for the radical acoustic band band who last year closed down the Faslane nuclear weapons base, and this year make their screen-debut in the cinema release ‘Taking Liberties’. A true testament pf the efficacy of care in the community, this talented troupe of Northern nutters bring a tear to the eye, a smile to the face and a warm feeling to the groin. 2.30pm The Boat Band

Rock’n’Reel magazine recently pointed out quite correctly that the Boat Band are renoened for Cajun music particularly wild live shows. So it’s quite surprising that the most acclaimed traditional English music album of 2006 was the band’s “Trip to the Lakes”. What will they think of next? ‘Hypnotic..terrific’ (fRoots); ‘superb’(Musical Traditions); ‘superbly arranged’ (Rock’n’Reel); ‘superbly researched’ (Living Tradition).

What the FOS Brothers achieve in their performance is something which not many labelled under ‘roots’ manage – an eclectic diversity of Irish Folk, world influences and song smithery, superb musicianship and sublime vocals. “A stirring fusion of original and traditional songs on hypnotic acoustic guitars to 21st century dance grooves” (Steve Knightley – Show of Hands)
